## A routed /64 is not the same as one address

Many providers hand out a single IPv6 address, which is technically valid and practically annoying. A routed /64 gives you 18 quintillion addresses to allocate as you like: one per container, one per virtual host, rotating addresses for outbound connections, a stable address for inbound.

It is a free resource and using it removes several classes of problem. Every server here includes one, and a /48 is available on request at no charge if you are running something that needs to subnet.

## Reverse DNS for IPv6

The mechanism is the same as IPv4 but the notation is worse: PTR records live under `ip6.arpa` with the address written as nibbles in reverse order. Setting this by hand is unpleasant, so our panel takes the address and the hostname and generates the record.

A matching PTR is mandatory if you send mail over IPv6 — the large mailbox providers reject on a missing or mismatched record more aggressively for IPv6 than for IPv4.

## What actually determines address reputation

Not your traffic alone. Blocklists escalate: an individual address, then the /24 around it, then in bad cases the whole allocation. You inherit the behaviour of your neighbours, which is why the composition of a provider’s customer base is a technical property of the address you receive.

This is the concrete reason we enforce an acceptable-use policy while asking nothing about who you are. Monitoring tells you the range is already dirty; removing the customers that dirty it is what keeps it clean.

## Keeping yours clean

Do not send unsolicited mail, do not run open relays or open resolvers, do not let a compromised application send on your behalf. Most listings for legitimate operators come from a hacked web application sending spam, not from deliberate abuse.

Monitor your own address on the main lists rather than waiting for a customer to tell you mail is bouncing. If you are listed for something that is not your traffic, tell us and we will replace the address the same day and pursue the delisting.
